“I deeply believe that the children of Syracuse deserve a school that is both joyfully empowering and intensely rigorous. Students will love learning, embrace failure as an opportunity to grow, develop a strong sense of identity and purpose, and become the future leaders of their community.”
Katie Capella is deeply and personally invested in opening a high-performing school in her hometown of Syracuse, NY. When Katie arrived at college, she quickly realized that her high school in Syracuse had insufficiently prepared her, which helped form the foundation of her passion for education: “Inequity motivates me to do this work, 17 years later.”
Katie was the Founding Academic Dean at Achievement First Providence Mayoral Middle School, where she coached and developed teachers in humanities and STEM. Previously she served as the Director of Talent Development, Evaluation, and Recognition at Achievement First, helping to lead their innovative Teacher Career Pathway program. Katie also spent nine years as a teacher and leader at Achievement First East New York Elementary, where she began her career in education as a Teach For America Corps Member. Katie graduated from Harvard University with a B.A. in History and holds a Master’s in Teaching from Pace University.
