“The glaring achievement gap I saw within my own high school moved me to become a part of the solution. Every day, I am motivated to prepare my students to excel in rigorous high schools that will put them on the path to top colleges and rewarding careers.”
Mary Griffin has spent the past seven years at ReGeneration Schools, first as a seventh and eighth-grade English teacher, and then as Principal. While there, she learned how to build an urgent, joyful student culture; how to coach teachers to improve quickly; and how to use data to drive every academic decision. As the leader of a turnaround school, Mary witnessed firsthand the profound impact that a college prep and character-building education can have on students’ lives. She is now eager to use the sum of her experience, complemented by BES training and exposure to the best practices of top-performing urban schools across the country, to offer a new and unique option to the families of Chicago. “I intend to create a school that sets a new bar of high expectations and helps students rise to meet those expectations through world-class teaching and curriculum.”
Mary holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Tufts University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from the Summer Principals Academy at Columbia University. She has also completed the National Principal Academy Fellowship at Relay Graduate School of Education.
