For the first time, some Dutchess County parents next fall will have an alternative option for how to send their child to school for free.

Little Water Preparatory Charter School promises to focus on student empowerment, data-driven teaching and a culturally responsive curriculum when it opens on Mill Street in the city of Poughkeepsie in August.

Little Water became the first charter school in Dutchess to gain approval from the SUNY Charter Schools Institute in the fall.
