Dr. Melissa Capehart brings a wealth of experience and passion to education, with over 19 years of serving children in both educational and non-profit settings. She holds a Doctorate in Educational Leadership, an Educational Specialist degree in Instructional Leadership, and a leadership certification from Samford University, accompanied by a Master’s in Secondary Education and a Bachelor’s in History and Psychology from the University of Alabama.
Dr. Capehart’s background includes leadership and teaching positions, earning her numerous accolades like “2017 Teacher of the Year.” Most recently, she served as a Technology Integration Specialist, receiving the 2024 “Teacher in the Trenches” award. She has also enriched the lives of underprivileged children through inner-city summer programs and mentorship initiatives for high school girls in the non-profit sector. Her research focuses on inclusive education policies that benefit all students. Notably, her recent work explored the positive impact of fine arts programs on academic achievement for at-risk African American males. Her passions lie in researching best educational practices for students with Autism and advancing STEM and Fine Arts educational opportunities for all students.
