“I joined the BES Fellowship because I am committed to founding a school that empowers students to think critically, write powerfully, and advocate boldly while contributing to and engaging meaningfully in their communities and the world around them. ”
As a child of the South and a product of resilient Black educators in his family, Jhory Buskey has always known that school could be more than just a place to learn—it can be a launchpad for power, purpose, and identity. With roots in Alabama, he graduated from Mattie Thomas Blount High School, where he served as SGA President, was a Drum Major, was part of the Jack & Jill Beautillion Militaire, the Culturama Club, and co-founded the Alpha Elites Service Organization in Mobile. His journey led him to New Orleans classrooms and continued through the arts and education sectors in Houston, where he served as a Teacher, Department Chair, Assistant Principal, Principal in Residence, and most recently Principal and Educational Consultant.
Jhory is a visionary, collaborative, and systems-oriented leader. His leadership thrives at the intersection of instructional excellence and joyful school culture. At KIPP Sharpstown College Prep, he led the expansion from a 6–8 to 6–12 campus model and supervised five APs and deans across instruction, operations, and student support. Under his leadership, the school outperformed both the district and state, reflecting a commitment to rigorous academics and high expectations for all learners.
Prior to his role at KIPP Sharpstown College Prep, Jhory served as Assistant Principal and Instructional Coach at KIPP Generations Collegiate. He also spent over a decade teaching and leading in public schools across Houston and New Orleans.
Jhory holds a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Walden University, a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from Tulane University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre Arts from Dillard University.
