Josh Pinto Taylor, Ed.D. (he/him/his) was studying to be a city planner in Atlanta when his eyes were opened to disparities in the educational opportunities available to students he tutored in local public schools. Years later, he is returning to the city to open a school that delivers on its promise to provide all students with access to a great education. “Our school will show what is possible when young people have the opportunity to demonstrate their full potential. Schools should function as anchors in the community – pillars upon which futures stand.”
Josh’s vision for his school centers on strong school-community partnerships, strategic staff development, and comprehensive academic preparation, leading to excellent opportunities for students after graduation. This includes AP courses for high school students and exposure to a wide range of studies through electives, foreign language, fine arts, and enrichment activities. “Academic preparation is one of the leading drivers of college completion for prospective college graduates. As a result, our school will adopt rigorous standards for each grade level with an emphasis on reading, writing, and problem solving, all essential skills for post-secondary careers.”
Josh began his education career teaching high school through Teach For America in Atlanta. He served as a STEM teacher for the Noble Street Charter Network in Chicago and was most recently an academic dean at Achievement First Amistad High School in New Haven, CT. He has earned a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Tech and a master’s from the University of Illinois–Chicago, both focused on city planning and community development. Josh also earned a Doctorate in Education, with a concentration in entrepreneurial leadership, from Johns Hopkins University.
