Follow On Support

To ensure that schools start strong and sustain excellence over time, BES provides Follow On Support to school founders in their planning year and first two years of operation.

Follow On Support consists of various coaching activities – site visits, regular coaching calls, remote training, and artifact review. Leaders in their planning years also take part in small group intensives that mirror a cohort-based learning experience, led by BES coaches and leaders of high-performing BES schools. 

Follow On Support is open to founders of public schools in their planning year and first two years of operation.

Follow On Support consists of 80-100 hours per year for leaders in years 0-2, broken up into:

Coaching

• School Leadership: Responsive coaching on instruction, non-profit management, organizational leadership, talent development, and student recruitment and enrollment.
• Governance: Tiered support on board management and strategy, board recruitment and development, and during board transitions.
• Finance: Technical assistance on budgeting, contingency planning, financing, financial planning and management.
• Facilities (year 0 only): Technical assistance on facilities identification, planning, and development.

Site Visit: On site observation and coaching on instructional, cultural, and operational practices.

Artifact Review: Review of school artifacts, such as documents and videos of practice.

Resources: Bank of resources available to support leaders.

Training (year 0 only): Monthly cohort-based virtual training for Y0 leaders on core topics determined in collaboration with leaders in the cohort.

Intensive (required for year 0; optional for years 1 and 2): Three-day in-person session that includes training, peer-to-peer consultancies, school visits, and community building. (Leader is responsible for travel costs)
